I often wonder what it would be like to have a site like Slashdot. For those that don't know, Slashdot is basically a site for nerds with links to various nerdy articles on the net, and it then allows you to comment on these articles. Sorta like an organized Usenet discussion. The thing is that they get amazing traffic for a "personal" site. 1/2 million hits a day. They also overload other servers with the "Slashdot Effect". Basically when they put a link up to a story, everyone will try to visit that site and read it, thus taking down servers that can't handle the load. It's gotta be more than a full time job to run Slashdot. I can only imagine.

Ever have one of those times where you're at some place and you see someone who looks like someone you know, but haven't seen in a while and would never be where you happen to be? Well, that happened to me today. I went to REI today to check out camping stuff (that is the coolest damn store I've been to in a long time by the way), and I'm looking at backpacks. I turn to my right and I see this girl with long curly blond hair. Then I see her face. It looked exactly like my ex-girlfriend Jennie Kramer. So, now that I have a small sewage plant in my trousers, I have to figure out what to do. This is the part I hate. I mean I haven't seen this girl in a couple years, I look like shit, I don't even know if it's her, and what the hell is she doing in Minneapolis anyway? Instead of finding out I bolted. Bolted like the chicken I am. I'm pretty sure it wasn't her, I mean I had this happen to me in Madison last summer when I thought I saw my friend Tony and it just happened to be a guy who looked exactly like him (I mean exactly). But it was just very odd.

Call me a geek, but I like coming into work on the weekends. It gives me time to work on the site and with nobody in the office, I can crank my MP3's and pretty much do as I please. Nobody comes in asking me things, or any of that. But do I do actual work while I'm here on the weekends? Hell no! Why do you think I have a sticker on my keyboard that says "Fuck Work"?

God bless America. Better yet, God bless Ma Bell for giving us free local telephone calls. Today I was reminded by one of my British readers that most countries charge for local calls. Imagine what this would mean for surfing the net! Those of us in America who surf the net regularly would be paying up the wahzoo. I realize the internet was "born" in America, but I can't help but wonder if free local telephone calls are the reason for 64% of world wide net traffic to be coming from America. Another reason I think this is because Sega has just released their new video game system, "Dreamcast", in Japan. It comes with a modem to play games online against your friends. The Japanese haven't really been blown away by this opportunity. Why? They have to pay for local calls. Sure, Japan is second to America in net access, but that's not saying much. I mean, if I had to pay to watch TV by the minute, I'd probably only watch Red Dwarf.

It's Roy Lichtenstein day today. Maybe I'll use this image in a future episode, we'll see.

Consensus here is that Ghostbusters isn't a great movie. What?!?! That movie is damn awesome. It's gotta be like the ultimate line calling movie, and it's the only movie that I still consistently quote lines from on a day to day basis. Thank God it's close to Miller Time, so I'm ok! And yes, I'm sure I'm using this thing correctly.

I finally got paid today after my raise and it feels good. What doesn't feel good is that I'm getting whooped in the NCAA tourney contests I'm in. I don't know if I could have picked any worse than what I did. At least Creighton won. That's ablout the only thing I picked correctly. Way to go Blue Jays!

I'm excited. Why? Because I did the integration over to Scully yesterday (scully.redcouch.org) and things work wonderfuly. Right now you're viewing the page off our new server. While it was a pretty seemless proccess for you, be assured that this new server is much faster, more reliable and allows me to do things I couldn't do before. So, as long as everything remains tickety-boo, expect the new version of vitaflo to be launched soon (this weekend perhaps? ;).

Man am I busy. All I can say is that my birthday was good, it was pretty nuts, and I got a raise. So things are going well. ;)
