Doc T001 {TV Scan Lines}

Included: scanlines.psd

*------------------------*

Here's a nice little .psd that has TV scanlines pre-made for you. It's 800x600, so if you want it bigger you'll have to make a few more lines. To make nice scan lines, the idea is as follows...

1). First, open your the image you want scanlines on in Photoshop, then copy the scan line layer to a new layer in your image.

2). Next, turn down the opacity on the scan lines. Try using somewhere in the neighborhood of 25-35% opacity depending on the image. Lower looks better and doesn't have as strong a contrast.

3). For a dark image, use the black scan lines provided. If your image is light, just do an Image->Adjust->Invert on your scan line layer to make the scan lines white. This results in better looking lines.

4). That's pretty much all there is to it. Now, if you want to add scan lines into an image, you have a handy pre made psd. There are other options you can chose to spice it up even more, as follows:

-You can allow only part of an image to have scan lines by just cutting and pasting, or using layer masks.

-Try adding some noise to get that "TV grain" look.

-Use the Wave filter to add some funky waves to the lines.
